This week brings a slew of hot new tunes to Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix.
She’s back! Having taken on Jessie J, got in trouble for dancing in a car, and reportedly finding love, Delta Goodrem has been a busy woman. The long-term The Voice coach hasn’t stopped though, as evident by the release of her saucy new single. ‘Think About You’ is the first new music from Delts since her 2016 album, Wings of the Wild. It’s a song that’s made for strutting, and with her new look, Delta would surely turn heads strutting down Bourke Street. We dare you not to bust a move as you listen.
It’s been 13 years since a certain New Zealander ended up in second place on Australian Idol and 10 years since she left the Young Divas. How time flies. Emily Williams hasn’t been lying low though. She’s just finished a run being Paulini’s understudy in The Bodyguard musical and took some time to visit JOY to premiere her brand-new single. You might remember ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ from 1984, when Tina Turner took it to #1 in Australia. Emily’s given it a feel of her own, along with long-time collaborator The Popstar. This one belongs on the dance floor, and certainly belongs on JOY.
The Eurovision Song Contest may still be a couple of months away, but countries around Europe are currently trying to select their songs for May. Usually Finland throws a heap of singers and songs together for a competition called Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, or UMK for short, but this year they’re doing something different. Out-and-proud singer Saara Aalto has already been selected as the Finnish representative for 2018, and the Finns will have the chance to select her song. ‘Monsters’ is the first of three possibilities and is one of the most perfect pop bangers you’ll hear in 2018. After one listen, you’ll be letting go of your own monsters and wishing you were at the pre-Mardi Gras dinner party in her video.
Anna Robinson is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from New Zealand who’s made it big with her 2017 debut, Don’t You Forget About Me. Robinson has returned, freshly signed to Universal Music Publishing, with a solid bop called ‘Nothing to Regret’. You certainly won’t regret cranking the radio up for this one.
LA-based duo FRENSHIP had huge success with their 2016 release Capsize. As they embark on an American tour, James Sunderland and Brett Hite have dropped a new single to enjoy. ‘Love Somebody’ is laid-back in comparison to ‘Capsize’, but holds on to the percussion and synth sounds that have made their music recognisable. These guys have a heap of new music planned for 2018, and we look forward to what they have in store.
Wrapping up our new music for this week is the second single lifted from the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack, by Hailee Steinfeld and BloodPop®. ‘Capital Letters’ is the type of song you want to have blaring from your car’s speakers, thanks to its thumping bass line and a chorus you can sing along to with ease. It’s also a sure hit for these two Americans, who have had massive popularity of late with tracks like Let Me Go and Friends.
