Happy Mardi Gras! As we descend on Sydney to celebrate the 40th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, we celebrate the best of queer and Aussie music that you’re hearing at the moment.

American Janelle Monáe has been on everyone’s lips since Friday, having dropped a song that Bruno Mars could only wish he had released. With a bit of sass and a whole lot of funk, ‘Make Me Feel’ is the lead single from Monáe’s forthcoming Prince-produced album Dirty Computer. The video is bathed in bisexual light and has the sexually liberated Queen Janelle trying to decide between two people. It’ll be right up your alley.

We’ve now heard all three songs in the running for the Finnish entry at Eurovision, and it’s going to be tough to decide on our favourite. We added the first song last week and it’s time to add another. Out-and-proud Saara Aalto has dropped ‘Queens’ just in time for a huge queer celebration. Climb onto your throne, check out the royally Nordic video and assert your role as queens of the brand new nation.

Twelve years ago, Kim Petras became a big name in Germany when, as a 13-year-old, she talked about transitioning to female on a national current affairs show. Last year, this trans singer released her first single, and now she’s back with ‘Heart to Break’. This is a pop winner and deserves to be blasting out of radios around the country. We reckon you’ll be in love after the first listen.

Luke, Calum, Ashton and Michael are 5 Seconds of Summer. 5SOS left us with Girls Talk Boys back in 2016 and have been lying low in LA since. Our boy band dreams came true this week as the four lads from Sydney dropped a brand-new song. ‘Want You Back’ is the lead single from 5SOS’s forthcoming third studio album. We couldn’t resist adding this pop-rock gem and we think you too will be wanting more from these Aussie boys.

Long-haired Aussie star Conrad Sewell has teamed up with Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren to get grooving with a brand-new single. Sex, Love & Water is a timely reminder to ensure that you stay adequately hydrated while engaging in heavy petting. It’s also sure to get you in the mood for such activities.
