New music to weekdays (7 March 2018)

New music additions

Samantha Jade Roller Skates (SME)
Aron Hannes Gold Digger (HANDS UP MUSIC)
Meghan Trainor No Excuses (SME)
Chris Watts Signs (OUTPOST / WMA)
Lorde Supercut (UMA)

Let’s be honest – everyone is still recovering from a massive weekend. Why not continue the party with this week’s hot new additions to Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix?

JOY favourite Samantha Jade is back! She’s gathered the sequins, popped on the halterneck and lowered the disco ball to entertain you with her newest. ‘Roller Skates’ is the lead single from her forthcoming disco-inspired third studio album, Best of My Love, due to crash right in the middle of your dance floor on 20 April. We don’t mind a bit of disco here on JOY, and this should have you up and dancing in no time!

Did we mention that JOY’s music director is also one of the hosts of JOYEurovision? If you didn’t already realise, this song should make it pretty clear. Icelandic singer Aron Hannes has entered Iceland’s Eurovision selection competition Söngvakeppnin twice now. Last year, he sang Tonight and came third. This year, he performed ‘Gold Digger’ and slipped to fourth. We loved ‘Gold Digger’ so much that we had to give it a run on Australian radio, and we think you’ll enjoy this lad’s soulful sounds too.

She made it big by being all about that bass, and Meghan Trainor has again used a punchy bass line in her new track. No Excuses is the lead single from Meghan’s forthcoming third studio album, which promises to be a family affair – her partner and family appear on every song. Give this one a listen and Someone else, you must’ve confused me, confused me with someone else is bound to be stuck in your head all day long.

Chris Watts is a Melbourne-based singer-songwriter who has been musically getting around of late. From releasing a single with Amy Sheppard to opening for Elton John and Robbie Williams when they each performed in Melbourne, Chris has had his fair share of talented partners. However, one partnership didn’t work out quite as well and ‘Signs’ is all about that heartbreak and eventual recovery. This song might be about a negative life lesson, but we reckon this lesson learnt will get you singing and clapping along.

Lorde has had a big year, with her album Melodrama taking the #1 spot on the ARIA chart and producing a heap of multi-platinum-selling singles. ‘Supercut’ is the latest to be released from the record and it takes Lorde to a whole new level. The track’s a thumper and shows that this New Zealander can do no wrong when it comes to releasing musical gems.
