Variety is our middle name and this week’s newest tracks to Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix prove it.
Melburnian Maribelle leads the musical charge this week. The last time we heard from this out-and-proud singer was in 2016 with her single Shout, but she certainly hasn’t been lounging about, having created her record label, Crush Club Records, from the ground up. ‘I’m a Mess Without You’ is a personal song for Maribelle, but its cool groove and smooth percussion should make it a personal favourite for you too.
He’s written for Katy Perry, been certified platinum and played at a heap of music festivals, but surely Hayden James has now reached the pinnacle of his career by landing on JOY. The Sydney-based DJ and producer teams up with British singer-songwriter Boy Matthews for ‘Just Friends’. This one’s an earworm – the mmm-ing will certainly get stuck in your head and we think you’ll be dancing along.
Melbourne lad Tyron Hapi has done well for himself in the past year – his debut release Anyway has gone gold and his DJ talent has been in demand. He partners with another Melburnian, Liam Ferrari, to deliver ‘I Like the Way’. Thirst-trap Liam’s vocals give the track a pop lift, making it a perfect addition to any radio playlist. Watch out for these two – we think they have big things ahead.
Conrad Sewell has just signed to Sony and released Ghosts & Heartaches to celebrate. ‘Healing Hands’ is one of the two songs in this bundle and it’s very Sewell. If you love a big, building singalong ballad, this one will be for you. Ride it out – you’ll be shaking your hands in the air by the end of it.
The last time we heard from Backstreet Boys was back in 2013 when some of the lads got their shirts off in the Show ‘Em (What You’re Made Of) video. This year, they’re celebrating 25 years together by signing to RCA Records and releasing a brand-new single. ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ is the lead from the boy band’s forthcoming ninth studio album, due in October. Some have made comparisons between the single’s video and a Eurovision performance, but sadly it doesn’t have maneki-nekos or fire, so it probably wouldn’t win.
