There’s something for everyone in this week’s additions to Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix.
Swedish pop lovers: A singer managed by the same woman who made September big is back with a banger. ‘My Love’ is the newest from Michel Young and it’s bound to make a mark on your ears. It’s bright, cheerful, bouncy and made for JOY.
Club lovers: This Dutch DJ-producer has been in Australia getting the Ultra crowds jumping, and he’s got something new. Martin Garrix has teamed up with Swedish singer-songwriter Bonn for ‘No Sleep’. The follow-up to Garrix’s massive hit ‘Oceans’ is a major earworm and you’ll be spinning around the office with it in the background.
Indie-pop lovers: Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Alice Ivy is getting ready for a national tour that will hit Melbourne in May. In the meantime, she has been writing with Detroit-based, queer singer Flint Eastwood and created ‘Close to You’. It’s full of synths, sound effects and percussion and we reckon you’ll enjoy it.
Dance-pop lovers: California-born, New Zealand-based singer-songwriter Jon Lemmon has had major success with his past releases, especially last year’s Something True. Mr Positivity is upping the ante with his newest, ‘Good Reasons’, written about the moment when you hit rock bottom and realise you need to transform yourself and your life. If you need something to lift your spirits, this song is it.
Lovers of love: You met out-and-proud Alfie Young when his debut single, ‘High Note’, became part of MMUMM last month. The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter has delivered ‘Moves Me Like You Do’, which was originally written as a waltz for his grandparents to dance to. Now it’s an ode to love and the realisation that it’s not just for heterosexual couples.
Remix lovers: Tom Walker‘s debut album, What a Time to Be Alive, is due to drop on 1 March, but before then comes ‘Just You and I’. The Scotland-born, England-based singer and multi-instrumentalist debuted in 2016 and made it big with his platinum-selling single Leave A Light On in 2017. Dutch DJ R3HAB has given the song a bit of a touch-up, making it ready for your workday.
