Out-and-proud producer Donatachi is back! Freshly signed to etctetc, the Sydneysider teams up with Melburnian Evangeline for his newest sweet release. ‘Do What I Want’ is everything you’d expect from Donatachi, oozing with bubblegum bliss and sugary synths. Who says too much sugar is a bad thing?
English DJ-producer Shahid Khan, as Naughty Boy, is best known for his 2013 hit ‘La La La’. He was due to release his second album, Bungee Jumping, last year, but it’s yet to land. In the meantime he has released ‘Undo’, the sixth single from the album. Featuring the vocals of out-and-proud British singer Calum Scott, it delivers a reggae dancehall vibe that’s perfect for wiggling to.
Openside comes to us from across the ditch and this band is sure to make a major impact on the Aussie music scene. The four-member band is fronted by gender non-binary lead singer Possum Plows, and they have dropped ‘Waiting for Love’ on the back of a successful summer of shows in New Zealand, including performing at Auckland’s Big Gay Out. This track brings a touch of pop-rock to the music mix and we’re looking forward to hearing a lot more from them.
Darwin-born VASSY has been a JOY favourite ever since her first addition back in 2013. Now based in the US, the singer-songwriter has been busy creating music for advertisements, TV shows and movies, while still making top-notch tunes to dance to. ‘Concrete Heart’ is the follow-up to Billboard #1 ‘Doomsday’ and has been produced by American duo Disco Fries. It’s a banger, and we reckon you’ll be loving it hard.
Relationships are the perfect fodder for pop music, and the newest from Jonas Blue shows just that. The platinum-selling DJ-producer combines top dance beats and pop sensibilities in ‘What I Like About You’, which features Danish singer Theresa Rex. It’s bound to be another success for the British hitmaker.
Bebe Rexha dropped ‘Last Hurrah’ a little while ago and we thought it was time to include this anthemic bop in the music mix. The bisexual British singer talked about her fluid sexuality in response to the outcry about some lyrics that were interpreting as trivialising bisexuality in ‘Girls’. The new song has had moderate success, reaching #65 on the Aussie chart, but we’d love to see it climb higher.
Kosovo-born British singer-songwriter Rita Ora has had massive success with her second studio album, Phoenix. The fifth single from the album is ‘Only Want You’, a belter of a ballad that is for your one and only love. It includes some rap from 6LACK, but we think the album version is far superior so that’s the one we’ve added to our music mix.
