You can’t get much closer to JOY music royalty than Parralox’s John Von Ahlen.  Not only an out-and-proud Melburnian, and a great DJ, producer and singer, John is also a JOY presenter who brings you the fantastic Neon Nights every Saturday night at 6pm AEDT. Parralox’s latest, Wildlife, remixed by the incomparable 7th Heaven, kicks off our new music this week.

Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Sinead Burgess has featured on JOY previously. Despite some really strong songs and the backing of Island Records, she’s yet to achieve mainstream appeal. We really like ‘Wolf’, and we know you will. Let’s hope for Sinead this is the one that cuts it with the commercials as well.

Following his win for song of the year at the 2015 ARIAs, Brisbane-born Conrad Sewell doesn’t need any further introduction. ‘Remind Me’ is similar to that massive hit ‘Start Again’, but it has a touch more tempo – which suits us just fine.

Dutch producer Hardwell continues to go from strength to strength. His latest, Birds Fly, sees him team up with his compatriot hitmaker Mr Probz.

New York-based duo Lion Babe are new to JOY with the third single from their debut album, due out 2 February. The neo-soul Where Do We Go was too good to resist, and we think you will love it as much as we do.

British alt-rockers The 1975 have been around since 2002, but their latest material has a very 80s retro pop feel to it that we are digging. The Sound is the third single from their latest album.

The latest from Norwegian producer Kygo, featuring Mississippi-based female vocalist Maty Noyes, is simply more pure ‘Kygo-cool’ – which we’ve decided is a thing. ‘Stay’ has all the hallmarks of being just as big as last year’s hit, ‘Firestone’.

British producer Shift K3Y (yes, that’s ‘shift-key’) hasn’t been on our radar until now. We couldn’t resist Gone Missing, a collaboration with new British singer BB Diamond.

And finally, Scottish electronic band CHVRCHES (pronounced ‘churches’) have impressed us with Empty Threat, the fourth single from their second studio album.

Set your alarm and tune into Rochén, Adam or Michael on the six at six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
