Kicking off our new music this week is the band who we thought would be forever defined by their massive worldwide hit ‘Rather Be’. Clean Bandit generally use guests for the lead vocals on their songs, which in the case of Jess Glynne introduced her to an appreciative world. For their latest single, ‘Rockabye’, they’ve teamed up with already-established English singer-songwriter Anne-Marie, this move has given them a second UK #1 after a string of top 10 positions since ‘Rather Be’. It’s already top 20 in Australia too. There is another version of this song featuring Sean Paul, but we prefer the less urban feel without Sean in the mix. We think you will too.
UK drum-and-bass duo Sigma are back with a new single, ‘Find Me’, featuring British folk singer Birdy. It’s another good one.
Australian singer-songwriter-performer (and daughter of Marcia) Deni Hines who had some major hits both as a solo artist and with the Rockmelons in the early to mid-1990s, is back with her first new release in four years. Her album The Soul Sessions is a mix of covers and originals, including the lead single, ‘What About Love’.
Em Rusciano is a successful comedian, writer and broadcaster, but we were originally alerted to her talents back in 2004 when she was a contestant on TV’s Australian Idol. Despite her making it to the top ten in the competition, we’ve never seen a musical release from Em -until now. Her debut single, ‘Versions of Me’, written and produced by MSquared Production’s Michael Paynter and Michael Delorenzis is pretty darn good and will probably end a huge year on a high note for the popular personality and JOY favourite.
We’ve been advocates for the talented Melbourne-based group Masketta Fall for a couple of years now. Their latest single, ‘I Believe’, is possibly their best yet. We think you will agree.
Australian producer Mad Article has teamed up with English singer-songwriter Kate Wild for an indie-dance track, ‘Better Without You’, that will take you pleasantly by surprise.
Sydney-based singer-songwriter Montaigne has released her second single, ‘What You Mean to Me’, which is as excellent as her debut release, and perhaps far easier to understand than her ARIA speech this week.
And finally, the final (apparently) Australian X Factor has been run and won, successfully launching another youngster straight to the top of the charts. Isaiah is 17 years old and harks from regional Victoria. After his win this week, he now has the biggest song in the country – written by DNA Songs (Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci) – with ‘It’s Gotta Be You’.
Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
