Melbourne-based out-and-proud independent singer-songwriter Peter Wilson kicks off our new music this week. Peter’s forthcoming album, Overdrive, is his fifth with UK label Energise Records and his sixth overall. The lead single, ‘Hold You Tight’, was co-written by John Davis (aka DJ Argonaut) and produced by Fred Ventura & Paolo Gozzetti (aka Italoconnection). We think this is one of Pete’s strongest songs yet.
A brand-new artist into the mix is Melbourne-based out-and-proud independent singer-songwriter Harold Maxwell. His song ‘In the Dark’ is an interesting blend of classical-music influences crafted into dance-pop.
Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo is best known in Australia for her top five hit in 2014, ‘Stay High’, and for wearing a dress featuring a uterus decoration on the ARIA Awards red carpet just last week. The dress seems to have grabbed enough attention to get Tove’s latest single moving upwards on the Australian charts -although we’d like to think that Australia has just realised that ‘True Disaster’ is a mighty good pop song.
New Zealand stalwarts The Naked and Famous are back with ‘The Runners’, the second single from their current album.
The Weeknd’s third studio album, Starboy, was released last week. As well as the tiitle track (which was the first single), there’s another collaboration on the album with Daft Punk. Without any official servicing to radio, ‘I Feel It Coming’ is making its mark on the singles charts – and we can hear why. We’re adding it this week so you can hear it too.
Aussie expat singer-songwriter Betty Who has been on our lists for a while, but it took a cover to get her noticed by the Australian buying public earlier this year. ‘Human Touch’ is the first taste of new music for a second album, slated for release early next year. It’s slick and professional comtemporary pop, and we think you’ll love it.
Is there anyone who doesn’t know who Sia is? Of course not. Suffice to say she’s teamed up with her regular pop partner Greg Kurstin to write and produce a song for the soundtrack to the movie Lion (In cinemas 19 January). Of course it’s amazing – it’s Sia.
German producer Robin Schulz has collaborated with French superstar producer David Guetta and American electronic trio Cheat Codes for what is a sublimely good song in ‘Shed a Light’.
