An excellent combo to kick off our final new-music additions for 2016 this week. Hayley Teal is an out-and-proud Melbourne singer-songwriter who this time last year was gearing up to grace the stage of Midsumma Carnival, and who has had a couple of tracks featured previously on JOY. Alius is an out-and-proud Melbourne singer-songwriter-producer (real name Sebastian Ivanov) who we’ve featured previously in various guises – as a solo singer, as a producer, and with his sister Bec. Hayley has been signed to Ministry of Sound and with Alius has produced a subtle tropical-house rework of the 1998 Dawson’s Creek theme song, ‘I Don’t Want to Wait’ originally, written and performed by Paula Cole.
Sam Sparro has been wanting to work with the Danish team once known as Alphabeat since sharing the British charts with them back in 2008. Two members of Alphabeat, Anders SG and Anders B, are now a duo called THANKS and they’ve created a lovely shiny piece of Europop in ‘Your Man’. Sam’s unmistakable vocals feature throughout.
British singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor continues to delight her fans with new music, and she knows that many of her gay fans have adored her work with Freemasons (Russell Small and James Wiltshire) over the years. Her latest single, ‘Crystallise’, gets the Freemasons treatment from Wiltshire under his solo guise of F9 and doesn’t disappoint.
Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
