New music to weekdays (28 June 2017)
With the 2017 Australian grand final of The Voice due to air on Sunday night, the 2016 winner, out-and-proud singer-songwriter Alfie Arcuri, finally released new music this week. Having performed the song on the show’s semi-final, he will be hoping for a strong level of support. Alfie says this is a very personal song about an ill-fated relationship that occurred shortly after he came out five years ago. ‘If They Only Knew’ kicks off our new music this week.
Melbourne-based DJ-producer Vas One should be familiar to those with a penchant for local dance music and memories of many years of fantastic tunes on the now-retired JOY program, Vinylizm. The Noise is a collaboration of Vas and his brother Toni. Their latest single, ‘Just Be Good to Me’, is a remake of the 1993 hit by the S.O.S. Band and is well worth a listen.
New York-based out-and-proud DJ-producers Joe Gauthreaux and DJ Grind have been in full pre-production mode leading up to the massive US Pride party circuit, which is now in full swing. Just released this week is their latest collaboration, which includes another New York-based JOY favourite, Inaya Day, on vocals. Reworking the Australian 1977 hit classic Love Is in the Air, originally by John Paul Young, they’ve also chosen to donate all sales proceeds to The Trevor Project. This one is guaranteed to get those big gay dance floors pumping.
DJ Grind has been busy collaborating with out-and-proud DJ Toy Armada on an official remix for the latest single from Carly Rae Jepsen. If ‘Love is in the Air’ gets you on the dance floor, the Toy Armada & DJ Grind Anthem Mix of ‘Cut to the Feeling’ will keep you there, directly under the mirror ball. (Look for us while you’re there!). We’ve added this to our mix alongside the exceptional pop original.
We thought Bruno Mars might be done with single releases from his highly successful album 24K Magic. But no, instead you get French dance-master David Guetta to rework a relatively sedate album track and all of a sudden your third single, Versace on the Floor, is the biggest funk release for 2017!
Chartwise, Ella Eyre is best known in Australia for her 2013 top ten collaboration with Rudimental, ‘Waiting All Night’, and Sigala is best known for his 2015 breakout hits ‘Sweet Lovin’ and ‘Easy Love’. We’ve featured other songs from both these artists since, so we’re extremely hopeful that their pairing will get them a big new hit in Australia. The signs are excellent, with Came Here for Love already climbing the UK charts. We’re definitely on board and think you will be too.
Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
