Queensland-based trio Mischief kick off our new music this week with ‘Oblivion’, the title track from their debut EP. This one is seeing some traction on commercial radio in the girls’ home state, so we’ve got our fingers crossed for the first indie hit of the year in the mainstream charts. We’re on board, now we just need Fox, KIIS and Nova – come on guys, this deserves to be heard!

JOY fave Deni Hines recorded a cover of the 1982 Donna Summer hit ‘Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)’ in 2012. Due to the weird way the music industry works, the only version of ‘Finger on the Trigger’ to see the light of day at the time was the 7th Heaven remix on a limited European-market Fierce Angel compilation album. The track now sees a full digital release with a slew of new remixes to provide added value, and it includes that original 7th Heaven remix we’ve been spinning for the past four years. To help celebrate, we’re giving the brand-new Good Girls in Control remix some room to shine. It’s a fab new version and you’ll love it.

Remaking an iconic pop hit is always a risk. Melbourne-based production duo Teddy Cream (Brandon Mangion and Vince Cali) were up for the challenge and teamed up with Wollongong-based producer Reece Szabo to take on ‘The Horses’, written and originally recorded by Rickie Lee Jones and then covered by Australia’s Daryl Braithwaite in 1991 and becoming a smash hit. Daryl has already given this version his blessing, and we think it will successfully introduce this pop standard to a brand-new generation.

Sydney-based DJ-producer-singer Tigerlily has been one to watch for us for a few years now. Her latest single, ‘Ashes’, is far less brash than her previous releases and perfect radio-ready pop. We’re more than pleased to support it.

American singer-songwriter Selena Gomez is going from strength to strength and has quickly followed up the amazing ‘Bad Liar’ with the next instalment of her yet-to-be-confirmed fourth studio album. ‘Fetish’ is sultry and sexy but still a little bit cheeky. We know you’ll love it.

English singer-songwriter Dua Lipa is running a perfect score with us. With her latest excellent single release, ‘New Rules’, she makes it five from five added to our playlist from her debut album.

American singer Halsey continues to make her mark as a solo artist after first coming to world attention on The Chainsmokers’ hit ‘Closer’ in 2016. The second single, ‘Bad at Love’, from her second studio album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, is contemporary pop music at its best.

Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
