There’s a heap of new music coming your way this week, and the only way to hear it is by locking it on JOY during your work day.
She’s been a headliner for a few queer events this year, and this week Starley is headlining our new additions. ‘Love is Love’ brings you a queer story by a queer singer and it is marvellous. Having written it from the heart, this Aussie girl is claiming her sexuality through this release, and there’s no way we could say no to it at JOY.
Betty Who is a fierce ally of our communities and has been making it big in LA. The Aussie singer has already made a mark with her reboot of the Queer Eye theme song, and she continues to strengthen her career in the US. ‘Taste’ is a sexy, soulful banger that is sure to cement her popularity even further, and we think it will be stuck in your head.
Justin Erougian is a Melbourne-based DJ and producer who has released something new under his moniker Airwolf. ‘Chasing You’ is the latest from his debut EP, Elevate, and features vocals from local lass Bonnie Anderson. If you love house music, you’ll love this one.
In the UK, gay singer-producer SAKIMA has been making waves since releasing his debut single, Daddy, last year. He has just dropped ‘Show Me’ and it’s a fabulous queer celebration of sex. It has just the right mix of pop and RnB to get your body moving.
At only 19, LOVA is a talent in the making. This Swedish singer has already had Nordic success with ‘You Me and the Silence’, and it’s finally hit Australia. She brings an indie-pop feel to the music mix and we’re looking forward to seeing what’s yet to come. We reckon you’ll be singing the chorus over and over.
There’s some RnB love this week, with a remake of a 1994 hit. Dutch DJs Lucas & Steve have worked with American legend Brandy to deliver a dance version of her Australian #12 hit ‘I Wanna Be Down’. Now called ‘I Could Be Wrong’, it’s a perfect throwback to the 90s, especially as we celebrate twenty years since the release of Brandy’s platinum-selling album Never Say Never.
Keeping on the remake track, we have a reboot of an 80s classic by English new wave/dance trio When In Rome. Miami-based DJ-producer Robbie Rivera has given a modern twist to ‘The Promise’, which peaked at #103 on the Australian chart in 1988 and has been heard in a multitude of movies and TV shows since.
