New music to weekdays (8 April 2020)

New music additions

Troye Sivan Take Yourself Home (EMI)
KEiiNO & Electric Fields Would I Lie (HUGOWORLD)
Essie Holt Salt (IND)
Nea Some Say (Felix Jaehn Remix) (SONY MUSIC SWEDEN / MILKSHAKE)

While you #StayAtHome, why not enjoy these gems of tunes, newly added to our weekday line-up?

Troye Sivan is very honest when it comes to ‘Take Yourself Home’, explaining that it’s one of his favourite songs that he’s ever written. Originally meant as a “pep talk with yourself and the place you’re from”, the out-and-proud Aussie’s new track has taken on a whole new meaning in our current circumstances. While it might sound like a melancholy song at the beginning, it builds into something that will have your shoulders moving while you work at home. We reckon you’ll also love the video, which was created using visuals from freelance artists who answered Troye’s callout on Insta.

Last year, queer Indigenous singer Zaachariaha Fielding and producer Michael Ross were at short odds to win Eurovision: Australia Decides. They lost to Kate Miller-Heidke, but Eurovision fans have been wanting more from Electric Fields since. They’ve now delivered one of the queerest collabs so far this year, teaming up with the Australian public’s 2019 Eurovision favourite KEiiNO for a track that is a pop-lover’s dream. The Norwegian trio, consisting of gay singer Tom Hugo, singer-songwriter Alexandra Rotan and joiker Fred Buljo, flew to Australia last year to record ‘Would I Lie’, which is the lead single from OKTA, their album of collaborations with other indigenous artists. With the combination of English, Pitjantjatjara and Sámi, we think you’ll be humming the hook in no time.

Melbourne-born, Sydney-based Essie Holt has been busy sharing her music since late 2018, with the singer-songwriter touring alongside Nina Nesbitt, GLADES, Northeast Party House and Lime Cordiale. She’s just released her debut EP, Silent Wars, and with it her debut single. ‘Salt’ is about being honest and genuine with yourself, which mirrors Essie’s experience of coming out while writing the songs on the EP. It’s an uplifting, multi-layered pop gem that is a perfect addition to our playlist.

She was part of the team who wrote Zara Larsson’s international multi-platinum hit Lush Life, and has also put pen to paper for Tove Styrke, Grey, Maggie Lindemann, Tinie Tempah and Axwell, but now Nea has decided to do the singing herself. The South Africa-born Swedish -songwriter has released her debut solo single, ‘Some Say’. It was the most-played song on Swedish radio for eight weeks and currently sits in the top 10 of charts across Europe. Bisexual German DJ-producer Felix Jaehn has turned the original ballad into a thumper that retains the nod to Eiffel 65’s 1998 smash ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee)’. We’re looking forward to more solo singing from this talented songwriter.
