It’s Radiothon and time to celebrate the importance of independent media for our communities. Over a third of the music you hear during your workday is created by Australian artists, with out-and-proud artists contributing a quarter of the tunes we play each day.

One of our favourite British singer-songwriters has jumped on to the dais with a gold-medal-winning bop. Sam Smith has channelled Olympic glory in their brand-new song, ‘I’m Ready’. American singer Demi Lovato joins the chorus, singing about the need to find someone to love. Even though Sam has postponed the release of their third, unnamed album due to the pandemic, we’re thankful we can still enjoy new tunes from them.

Ava Max continues to tease us with her debut album, which we are expecting to drop later in the year. The American singer-songwriter has given another taster with ‘Salt’, a pop banger that fans pounced on when it was shared across socials last year.

Sydney-based singer-songwriter Mia Rodriguez is a big name on social media, with over 2 million followers on TikTok alone. This popularity has led her to being signed to a new Australian label and releasing a brand-new single. ‘Psycho’ is a grungy bop, influenced by K-pop, mainstream pop and hip-hop. We think you’ll appreciate the sound.

We have a soft spot for singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson at JOY and she pulls all the heartstrings in her new single. The American has described ‘I Dare You’ as being her favourite yet hardest project to date due to the fact that she recorded the song in English and five other languages. Her aim was “to find that perfect song, with the perfect message, to connect us all globally” and we reckon she’s done it.

Briskey is a singer-songwriter hailing from Brisbane who is due to release his debut EP soon. His indie-pop gem ‘Don’t Want to Talk About It’ comes from it and is made for the commitment-phobes in our lives. Listen out for the sexy sax near the end of the song, which was inspired by music from Hayden James, M83, Bag Raiders and Duke Dumont.

It’s been a big 18 months for Sydney-born singer-songwriter Sam Fischer, who found great success with a song that was originally released in 2018. After being used in over 1 million TikTok creations, ‘This City’ was re-released in the US and Australia. It’s made an impact thanks to the Luca Schreiner remix, but we’ve upped the ante by bringing you the Frank Walker remix to give a lift to your working day.
