New music to weekdays (24 June, 2015)

Robin Schulz ft. Ilsey – Headlights (ATL/WMA)

Independent out-and-proud Australian singer-songwriter Hayley Teal kicks off our new music this week. Hayley first appeared on The X Factor (Australia) in 2010 and has crowd-sourced her debut EP, How Do You Like It. Lifted from the EP, ‘Fake It’ is an excellent first release.

Melbourne expats Miami Horror are coming home in August for a national tour. The current album, All Possible Futures, continues to deliver and their latest single, Cellophane (So Cruel) does not disappoint.

Swedish band Alcazar, with out-and-proud Andreas Lundstedt at the helm, has gone and covered the 1982 debut hit for British duo Wham!, Young Guns (Go for It). We couldn’t resist.

Lebanese-British out-and-proud singer-songwriter Mika is no longer the international sensation he was, but nonetheless he keeps putting out great pop tunes. His latest album went on sale a couple of weeks ago and the lead single, ‘Talk About You’, is pure pop.

Neon Trees from Utah, USA have a string of chart hits around the world to their name. Lead singer Tyler Glenn stepped out of the closet a couple of years back and Songs I Can’t Listen to is an ode to the memories of a broken relationship.

We last heard from Minnesota’s Owl City in 2012 when he teamed up with Carly Rae Jepsen for ‘Good Times’. He’s back with a brand-new single, this time collaborating with American rapper-songwriter-singer Aloe Blacc for Verge.

British boy-band Lawson returns to our airwaves with ‘Roads’.

Also in boy-band territory, Aston Merrygold was previously part of highly successful British group JLS. His debut solo single, Get Stupid, has already hit top 10 in the UK and like much of the JLS’s previous fare is perfect for JOY.

Swedish house production duo Galantis hit our airwaves for the first time. They did have a top 5 hit last year with ‘Runaway(U&I)’, but their second single, ‘Peanut Butter Jelly’, is a quirky disco throwback that will make you clap your hands without thinking about it.

German producer Robin Schulz has been making his mark on the Australian charts in recent times. His latest single, ‘Headlights’, is already top 40 and set to ascend further in the next few weeks.

Set your alarm and tune into Rochén and Michael on the six at six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
