On The Line today, a Melbourne man, known as HIVMAN1000 on his YouTube video blog, has called for all members of the community to re-engage with the safe-sex message. His impassioned plea follows the suicide of a 19yo Melbourne man who had just been told he was HIV+. **IMPORTANT: PLWHA (Victoria) provides an important workshop for people recently diagnosed HIV+. For up to date information on HIV go to afao.org.au The Victorian AIDS Council has trained counsellors and psychologists who specialise in caring for people traumatised by a recent diagnosis. And If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or suffering from depression and need someone to talk to, LifeLine operates a 24/7 counselling and referral service. Call 13 11 14.
In other news today – Hepatitis C has exploded in our nations prisons – of the 30,000 individuals currently held at her majesties pleasure, 50% are living with HepC. Brett Collins from Justice Action is calling for the introduction of a needle and syringe program to be implemented throughout the prison system.
