Today we’ve turned the whole show into a Telethon and set the massive goal of raising $4000.00 in 54minutes. This weekend four dedicated JOY 94.9 volunteers, including today’s co-host Ben Horan, will join 1800 cyclists in the 200km “Ride To Conquer Cancerâ€. JOY’s ‘Lycra Lovin Team’ needed to raise $4000.00 to achieve their ambitious target of $16,000 for the Peter Mac Cancer Centre – Australia’s only public hospital dedicated to cancer treatment. We heard extraordinary stories of survival from Mark “Pup†Whearem regarding his Mother’s 7 year battle with a rare blood cancer. Professor John Zalcberg OAM, chief Medical Officer and Executive Director at Peter Mac Callum Cancer Centre in Melbourne joined us to explain some the amazing work and research the institution conducts. Then Dot Horan (Ben’s Mother) shares her family’s devastation upon finding out her husband had to undergo triple bi-pass heart surgery and have a cancerous kidney removed all in just 3 months. We raised $4295.00 in the4 54 minutes we were on air. A HUGE thank you to all who donated.
