Spotlight on Judy Garland & Camp and the Gay Sensibility

OTpodcast2

Camp is defined as a relationship between irony, aestheticism, theatricality and humour. One of the best examples of these elements combining in to one person is screen and music legend Judy Garland. This show celebrates both with a look back at her stellar career and why camp is so important to queer history and cinema.

Featuring an in-depth interview with David Helperin, noted academic and author of ‘How to be Gay’, who dares to suggest that gayness is a way of being that gay men must learn from one another to become who they are, plus a chat and an amazing live performance from local performer Ilana Charnelle, who celebrates Judy Garland in song and style at many of her performances at shows and festivals around Australia.
