High School Confidential

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs teens head back to high school for the new school year, so we take a look at films that capture the high school experience as well as some of the issues facing GLBTQ teens in high school today.

From satirical modern classics like Mean Girls and GBF to impassioned re-imaginings of teen angst in films like Were the World Mine, we consider some of the most whimsical, and earnest, and campiest representations of queer life in high school.

We’re also joined by Rory from Minus18 and the Safe Schools Coalition, who chats with us about what life is like for queer teens in high school today and why queer representation of high school life is so important. In particular, we look at the rise of gay/straight alliances, and their representation in films like Geography Club, and television series like Glee.
