Winter at Westbeth and the NYC Art Scene

WINTER AT WESTBETH is the profoundly humane new documentary from Rohan Spong. It celebrates the lives of three artists living in New York.

It also served as inspiration for this Out Takes special as we looked at queer films that celebrate the New York arts scene, and the artists who comprise it: think documentaries like MAPPLETHORPE: LOOK AT THE PICTURES, biopics like BASQUIAT, and hollywood dramas like RENT and HEIGHTS.

With so many films celebrating the New York arts scene we’re spoilt for choice! So we called in Rohan Spong, the director of WINTER AT WESTBETH, to help us make sense of what it is is that makes the New York arts scene so ripe for cinematic representation.

Essential Viewing: Winter at Westbeth (2015, Dir Rohan Spong)

Hungry for More: Rent (2005, Dir Chris Columbus)
