Melbourne Queer Film Festival 2018

In 2018, Melbourne Queer Film Festival heads into its 28th year to showcase contemporary queer cinema from Australia and beyond in the largest queer film festival in the Southern Hemisphere.

At Out Takes, it’s one of our favourite festivals and we always look forward to deep diving in to the program and speaking with the MQFF team about the must-see films and give our opinions on what we’re most excited to see.

This year we were joined in studio by recently appointed MQFF Executive Director Maxwell Gratton (pictured right) who discussed how his experience in the sports industry will shape his vision for the festival plus why it’s so important for MQFF to continue to educate, entertain and celebrate diversity.

We were also joined by MQFF Program Director Spiro Economopoulos (pictured left) who shared with us his picks for the ‘best of the fest’ plus what goes in to programming 85 sessions encompassing 38 features, 14 documentaries, 72 shorts and incorporating 2 World Premieres, 12 Australian Premieres, 21 Melbourne Premieres and 2 newly restored Classic features.
