Biblical Tales & binge-worthy ways to spend Easter

For some, Easter is the most important and oldest festival of the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Christ. For others, it’s an opportunity to enjoy an extra long weekend and indulge in all of things you enjoy. For Out Takes, we looked at both sides in this program and used it as an excuse to talk about the things we love to binge on and also look at the latest film from a celebrated Australian director to join a long list of films that explore the many stories behind the true meaning of Easter.

First up, Alan spoke with friend of Out Takes and acclaimed film maker Garth Davis (pictured) who was doing the rounds promoting his latest film ‘Mary Magdalene’. Set in the Holy Land in the first century C.E., Mary Magdalene tells the story of a young woman who leaves her small fishing village and traditional family behind to join a radical new social movement. At its head is a charismatic leader, Jesus of Nazareth, who promises that the world is changing. Mary is searching for a new way of living, and an authenticity that is denied her by the rigid hierarchies of the day. Alan explores many of the themes of this story with Garth and we find out that for a story you might know well you’ve never seen it told like this before.

We also through up our favourite films and TV shows to binge on this Easter including the latest season of Queer Eye, the wonderful ‘Love, Simon’ and a unique Aussie made web series about a woman and her talking vagina – something for everyone!
