Peter Pan: a Queer Filmic Legacy

After a well deserved break, the Out Takes team returned to the airwaves to celebrate Peter Pan and the very queer filmic legacy of the boy who wouldn’t grow up. To mark the birthday of J.M. Barrie , the man who penned the restless spirit of youth into pop culture, we took an indepth look at the great breadth of films that have sought to retell his timeless tale.

Our guest was Allison Kavey, co-author and editor of ‘Second Star to the Right: Peter Pan in the Popular Imagination’.

We spoke with Kavey about gender and sexuality in Neverland, and the timeless imprint that Peter Pan has left on gay popular culture.

Essential viewing: Peter Pan (1953, Dir.  Clyde Geronimi and Wilfred Jackson)

Hungry for more: Peter Pan (2003, Dir. PJ Hogan); Finding Neverland (2004, Dir. Marc Forster).
