For this program, the Out Takes team continued our examination of Queer Foreign Cinema by turning our attention to queer Taiwanese film ahead of the inaugural Taiwan Film Festival in Sydney.

Our guests were The Story of the Stone director Starr Wu and the Taiwan Film Festival director Benson Wu. The Story of the Stone is a lavish new film that gives a modern gay twist to one of China’s most iconic literary love stories. It screens in Sydney this weekend as part of the Taiwan Film Festival. We spoke with both guests about queer cinema in Taiwan and what it is that’s making queer Taiwanese cinema more popular now than ever.
