‘Dear Evan Hansen’ with special guest director Stephen Chbosky

For this Out Takes, we turned the whole program over to ‘Dear Evan Hansen’, the latest in a line of blockbuster-stage-musical-to-big-screen adaptation that is in cinemas now across Australia and has sparked a lot of conversations around casting, representation and more. We were delighted to feature an exclusive interview with the films director Stephen Chbosky where we spoke about his incredibly diverse entertainment career, how he became involved with adapting another musical to the screen and the challenges involved in directing and delivering a film during a global pandemic. It’s a great interview and is not to be missed.

‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is a critically acclaimed multi award winning musical that opened on Broadway in December 2016. At the 71st Tony Awards, ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ was nominated for nine awards, winning six, including Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for Ben Platt, Best Musical and Best Score plus it also won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

The film adaptation from Universal Pictures was co-produced by Marc Platt, the father of Ben Platt who reprised his performance in the title role, alongside an ensemble cast including Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Nik Dodani, Julianne Moore, and Amy Adams and was directed by our very special guest for this program, Stephen Chbosky.
