Out Takes Encore: The Interview Edition

This year feels like it is flying by so for this show we pumped the brakes and revisited four of our favourite interviews from the past 12 months.

First up was our chat with award winning director, content creator and newly published author Hannah McElhinney to discuss ‘TransAthletica’, the 17-part documentary series that focuses on the trans experience in a world of gendered sports and features the voices of leading transgender athletes and activists. Recently the team behind TransAthletica announced that it has been nominated for Best Use of Vertical Video, Social in the 27th Annual Webby Awards which are hailed as the “Internet’s highest honour” by The New York Times.

Next up we revisited our interview with Georgie Stone and director Maya Newell about their beautiful collaborative Netflix documentary ‘The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone’ that takes us into Georgie’s world as an Australian transgender teen as she helps change laws, affirms her gender and finds her voice. On April 4th of this year, Georgie delivered an incredibly powerful and timely speech to The National Press Club of Australia about transgender specific issues including what it means to be a true ally to the trans and queer community.

When Daniel caught up with writer-director Maryam Touzani in February, her award winning film ‘The Blue Caftan’ was appearing at the Sydney Queer Screen Film Festival and receiving rave reviews. From May 18, The Blue Caftan will be in cinemas across Australia.

Our final encore interview was with director and producer Gus Berger to discuss his fantastic documentary ‘The Lost City of Melbourne’ which premiered at the 2022 Melbourne International Film Festival and is still screening now across Melbourne at many of our favourite local independent cinemas.
