New Queer French Films with special guest Olivier Peyon

After an extended break, the Out Takes team is back on the airwaves and in your ears so for our first show back we took a trip to France to look at two new films that are in cinemas now and highlight the strong LGBTIQ representation in French cinema. We were joined by French director and screenwriter Olivier Peyon who’s latest film ‘Lie With Me’ is an adaptation of Phillippe Besson’s worldwide best selling semi-autobiographical coming of age novel of the same name, which rose to international prominence following a translation by noted Francophile and actress Molly Ringwald.

We also reviewed ‘The Crime Is Mine’, the new film from acclaimed director François Ozon which is his witty and distinctly feminist adaptation of the 1934 play of the same name. We also took a look back at Ozon’s earlier queer film ‘Summer of 85’ and reflected on the quality of French queer cinema that we’ve come to know and expect.
