Batman V Superman + Wonder Woman = Queer?

trinityIt’s been panned by the critics but Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has had one of the strongest box office openings of any film. Ever. We think that’s pretty queer. But then, we think Dawn of Justice is a pretty queer film so we take this opportunity to review DC’s latest offering and ask whether Dawn of Justice taps into broad truths about the queer experience.

We’re joined by Haydn Klemm, founder of The Melbourne LGBT Comic Group, to queer Snyder’s visually superb but narratively questionable evocation of masc4masc desire and look at how the broader comic book universe, now a staple of Hollywood cinema, lends itself to queer analysis.

From Sedgwick’s conception of the homosocial, to the obvious Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde double life undertones, we find that there really is a great deal that’s queer about the latest collision of Gotham and Metropolis.

We also check in on the OT team’s reviews from their first 4 days of MQFF and hear from director Dennis Cooper about his film ‘Like Cattle Towards Glow‘, one of the more challenging and experimental films to be included in this years festival.
