The rise of TikTok and short format queer content

In this episode of Out Takes, we looked at the world of short format queer content designed for TikTok – the new media frontier where content creators are pushing boundaries and telling heart felt, challenging and innovative queer stories. We started by speaking to Alyce Adams, Manager of Investment and Development for Online Content at Screen Australia. Her role includes managing development, production and completion funding for multiple online projects across TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, ABC iView, SBS OnDemand, Blackpills, Netflix and Stan. We speak with Alyce about the rise of Tik Tok as a medium for diverse story telling, and the new Every Voice initiative at Screen Australia. The initiative provides funding to online storytellers in a bid to help cultivate original, diverse local story telling for online, TikTok audiences around the world. We also revisit chats with Hannah McElhinney, the co-creator of Transathletica, and Logan Miucha, the director of Scattered – two new, boundary pushing queer series that have reached millions of audiences around the globe on TikTok.
