To coincide with the International Day of Holocaust Remembrance, the Out Takes team looked at some of the most affecting films to mediate queer experiences of the Holocaust. These are important films that explore what it means to be queer against the threat of persecution.
We speak with Eddie Tamir, curator of the Holocaust Film Series, about why the Holocaust genre is so important, and why film makers are still making Holocaust films so profusely. Then, we curate our own selection of queer Holocaust films: PARAGRAPH 175, a powerful documentary with interviews of queer concentration camp survivors, CABARET, which playfully depicts life in the Weimar republic, and BENT, a powerful portrayal of gay love and desire in impossible circumstances.
