This week on Out Takes we took a look at some of the queerest Australian coming of age films.
From 52 TUESDAYS to HEAD ON, these are raw films that pack a punch. Films that traverse questions of race, ethnicity, sexuality and familial duty.
They also, we discover, mediate a uniquely Australian sensibility. They’re more gritty than their counterparts from across the globe; less optimistic. We chat with Craig Boreham, Director of TEENAGE KICKS, about why Australian coming of age films are so much more edgy than their international counterparts. We also unpack some of the themes that make TEENAGE KICKS such an intense coming of age story itself. TEENAGE KICKS premieres at the Sydney Film Festival this month.
