A Queer Guide To The Melbourne International Film Festival With Ana Kokkinos And Al Cossar

This week on Out Takes we spotlight the 66th Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). Running since 1952, MIFF is the leading film festival in Australia, and one of the longest running film festivals in the world. It’s also the largest showcase of exceptional Australian film making in the world, and a hub of new and enlightening international cinematic content.

To celebrate this year’s festival we speak with lead festival programmer Al Cosser. We chat about why the festival is so important, and dissect this year’s remarkable queer line up.

We also speak with ground breaking Australian auteur Ana Kokkinos – director of HEAD ON and THE BOOK OF REVELATION. Her uncompromising debut feature, ONLY THE BRAVE, features as part of the Pioneering Women showcase at the Festival this year, where her 2006 drama BLESSED also screens in celebration of the Festival’s Premier Fund, which supports local film making.

Ana joins us on OUT TAKES to discuss her remarkable career, some of the issues that continue to confront female filmmakers, and her on going commitment to making bold and confronting Australian film content.
