AIDS Memory and Trauma in Queer Film

In the lead up to World AIDS Day on 1 December, the Out Takes team turned its attention to Queer Cinema that grapples with the AIDS crisis of the 1980s; cinema that eschews re-dramatisation in favour of contemporary explorations of memory and trauma: think WE WERE HERE and AFTER LOUIE.

Our guest was Rohan Spong, the director and producer of ALL THE WAY THROUGH EVENING – a life affirming musical documentary that follows pianist Mimi Stern-Wolfe, who galvanises her community to stage annual memorial concerts. We think that ALL THE WAY THROUGH EVENING has a profound if subtle charm, and that it pays homage to the memory of those who lost their lives in the AIDS pandemic in a unique and touching way. ALL THE WAY THROUGH EVENING rescuers from the 24th of November at ACMI.
