Whether you recently adopted a senior pet, or have watched your puppy and kitten blossom into their senior years, loving and caring for a pet in their golden years is a truly gratifying experience.
All the training invested during their youth pays off in their senior years as they respond to your commands, are better mannered, have predictable behaviour and usually have a set routine they like to stick to – often making them great travel companions as a result.
Both cats and dogs are generally calmer, enjoy longer nap times and are not as demanding as puppies and kittens – often enjoy your company just by knowing you’re around.
As a responsible pet owner however, we need to be in tune with how our pets are getting on. Particularly when they’re older, we need to look out for key signs that may indicate they need help.
With a number of senior cats and dogs at our shelters across the country up for adoption, on Pets-A-Loud, we talk all things related to senior pets.
Coming up on the program today the team look at:
– Signs of ageing: How to identify your pet is getting older,
– The art of ageing gracefully: What treatments, training and adjustments need to be made to help them lead a happy and healthy life,
– Golden oldies: The benefits of adopting a senior pet,
– Seniors in need of a home: Showcase the North Melbourne shelter’s senior adoption candidates,
– Delightful Daphne: And, we hear how a former resident of the North Melbourne became a cherished family member of two Pets-A-Loud listeners. To connect with Daphne, you can friend her on Facebook by looking up Daphne Beyer-James.
