Your cat’s insistence to sprawl across your pillow may have started off as an adorable antic but at 3am the battle for prime nocturnal real estate wears thin. Do you cave in just to get a good night’s sleep because your persistent pooch is playing peekaboo under your bedroom door with his or her nose and paws, all the while whinging his or her way in to your bed?
What may have started off as something you could not resist can escalate into serious problems in the future. From the moment you decide to welcome a new pet into your life, you need to work out how much you can commit to their training and put it into action the moment your pet first sets their paw into your home.
Obedience training and ongoing training are crucial not only for the wellbeing for both you and, most importantly, your pet.
There are also broader social benefits of training your pets with shelters taking in surrenders of dogs who have not received training each and every day. Well trained dogs are also better citizens as they can safely appear in public and around children.
Last week on Pets-A-Loud, we kicked off our Mind Your Manners series by taking a close look at how to train your pooch to mind their manners in public. This week, the team look at training newly adopted pets to mind their manners at home.
