Blink and you’d miss it – the mainstream media did – but this week Foreign Minister Bob Carr said that gay rights were a ‘core foreign policy issue’ for the government. We look at what he said and what it means with Corey Irlam.
Bob Carr said one of the things he’s doing is trying to persuade places like PNG to decriminalise homosexuality. Until he succeeds, it’s 14 yrs jail.
Kevin Rudd’s shocking plan to dump refugees in PNG for ever stunned pretty well everyone. Even Tony Abbott. Won’t be too great for gay refugees, for now, either. Green candidate for the Senate Janet Rice says there is a better way, and we are a better people, than this.
Professor Harry Minas is an expert on Refugee mental health from the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. He gives us his take the latest asylum seeker policy.
