The Age joins Saturday Magazine

Victoria’s Opposition Leader, Daniel Andrews, has called The Age tapes scandal a “dirty mess”. And it’s now threatening to derail the Victorian Labor party’s 2014 election chances.

What began as a lost audio recorder from a Fairfax Media journalist has now been inflated into one of Victoria’s most talked about political scandals. The recorder contained a private conversation between former Premier Ted Baillieu and a journalist, the leaking of which has resulted in fingers being pointed in all directions. Mr Baillieu told The Age that the Labor’s party’s stance on the matter holds no credibility.

“Let’s face it, senior people in the Labor Party have known for more than two months that they were an integral part of what, by any measure, was an unlawful act and they have said nothing,” Mr Baillieu said.

Mark Hawthorn is Senior Editor of The Age, he joins David McCarthy and former Victorian MP Bronwyn Pike on this edition of Saturday Magazine.
