Dubbed “The Alchemist” and best known as the resident engineer on ABC TV’s New Inventors, Dr Veena Sahajwalla @VeenaSahajwalla is a lead researcher aiding global industries to abandon the need for virgin raw materials and fossil fuels. As the founding director of UNSW’s Centre for Sustainable Materials Research and Technology, she is changing and modernising the way we think about recycling science – creating ways to safely use complex and toxic wastes as low-cost alternatives for fuel.
