On 2 June 2022, Dr Marina Larsson, an award winning historian and Principal Assessor at Heritage Victoria achieved what hitherto seemed unattainable, the inclusion of the Melbourne AIDS Memorial Quilt on the Victorian Heritage Register. The Melbourne AIDS Memorial Quilt is the first to receive heritage listing and protection in Australia, and it is a landmark moment in the history of the AIDS Memorial Quilt movement internationally. Dr Larsson, who has been active in Melbourne’s queer worlds since the mid1990s, has worked assiduously to achieve this recognition.
