Macca and Isaac talk to Dimity Hawkins AM, about Japan releasing nuclear waste-water.
Dimity is a PhD candidate at Swinburne University. Her current research examines opposition to nuclear weapons testing in the Pacific, focusing in particular on Fijian government and civil society responses to nuclear testing in the Pacific between 1966-1975.
Dimity has worked and volunteered in the civil society sector as an advocate on issues of nuclear disarmament and broader social, environmental and human rights activism. In 2019 she was awarded an AM by the Order of Australia for “significant service to the global community as an advocate for nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.”
She was one of the Australian co-founders of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear weapons (ICAN) which won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize.
