Sonja- The Squeamer- Hammer talks long distance to International Rescues very own Lady…Lady Penelope AKA Sylvia Anderson the pioneer in television and genre science fiction TV from the 1960s and talks about her return to television as Great Aunt Sylvia in the re-imagined TV show : Thunderbirds Are Go! The animated children’s classic Thunderbirds Are Go has returned for part two of the remastered series on Sundays at 6.00pm on GO!

Featuring the world’s most famous family of heroes, the Thunderbirds team includes Parker played by original cast member David Graham, the inventor Brains voiced by Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker, Facejacker), John Tracy voiced by Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones, Love Actually) and London field agent Lady Penelope voiced by renowned actor Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Pride and Prejudice).

ITV and Pukeko Pictures have also revealed that co-creator Sylvia Anderson – who voiced Lady Penelope in the original 1960s series – will voice the character of Lady Penelope’s Great Aunt Sylvia in an episode airing later this year written by comedian David Baddiel, titled Designated Driver.

Set in the year 2060, Thunderbirds follows the adventures of the Tracy family headed by Jeff Tracy, an American multi-millionaire philanthropist whose five sons –Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon and Alan – are the force behind International Rescue, which is hidden on Tracy Island in the South Pacific Ocean.

ITV Studios and New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures have reinvented the classic Thunderbirds series in collaboration with world-famous Weta Workshop (Avatar, King Kong, The Lord of the Rings) using a unique mix of CGI animation and live-action model sets.

Thunderbirds Are Go has already been commissioned for a second series by ITV Studios.

Sonja also asks Sylvia Anderson her experiences making great groundbreaking shows like JOE 90 and Space 1999 and others and how her work influenced and helped form the careers of others who went on to design on The Empire Strikes Back and Alien!

Sylvia also worked for 30 years for H.B.O as their U.K ‘talent scout’ ( Projects Developer). What an amazing woman, and hero, and what a career, a true innovator!!
