David and Brendan are back after a week’s break. Brendan reviews 3 films—a disappointing remake of Poltergeist despite the great cast, an enjoyable sequel Pitch Perfect 2 from first time director Elizabeth Banks AND the penultimate Mad Max: Fury Road an apocalyptic film which is beautifully made and has well-written & substantial female roles.
David will be doing Radiothon on Friday Drive with special guest Colleen Hewett, famous Aussie singer who’s done her first album in 15 years which includes a song about domestic violence called Shut up and let me breathe. David also talks about Auspicious Arts Incubator, how it supports artists and an online forum this Wednesday.
Special guests today:
Febie Babyrose and Herbert Hans are Indonesian artists who met at art school and formed a collective called Tromarama in 2006. They were invited by the NGV to do something for kids which resulted in Open House: Tromarama for Kids Until 18 Oct at NGV. This installation is an actual house inside the gallery with many rooms and interactive art including a Stop motion app where kids can make their own animated films.
Andrew Guild—a producer of theatrical and entertainment events for many decades talks about how he started as an actor in theatre but then moved to the production side. Andrew brings Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake to Melbourne. He talks about its history and considers it a great introduction to ballet. The St. Petersburg Ballet – Swan Lake is on from 19-24 June at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre – Plenary. Tickets from Ticketmaster.
