Brendan reviews 54: The Director’s Cut, which he loved. It was originally shown in 1998 as 54 with many cuts to any gay content.
Special guests today are:
Young American/Iranian author Sara Farizan talks about her involvement in Reading Matters (part of Writing Matters) at the State Library: a bi-annual event encouraging teens to read, where they listen to talks, meets authors, buy books and participate in activities. She and other authors presented talks on different genres of books. Sara writes young-adult novels with her protagonists being lesbians of Iranian background.
Pippa Bainbridge is GM/CEO of Express Media (EM) who are running National Young Writers’ Month (1 to 30 June); an annual event for young writers across Australia to help them set and meet their writing goals via online and offline activities. At 6pm each night they can logon and see new content, videos, tutorials and spotlight sessions.
Joining Pippa are: Broede who is on the Voiceworks [magazine] editorial Committee, originally from regional Victoria, telling us how EM helped him as a writer; Paul, who is predominantly a writer, who is hosting a talk between two Australian comic artists and tells how comics can express personal things but can do them in a way that is political and Emma is a freelance writer AND the sex and gender editor at Spook magazine, an online cultural mag. She used EM’s online resources and connected with them through those.
