Brendan reviews 2 films including Spy, with Melissa McCarthy in the title role (rated B)and Entourage which is like a longer version of the TV series and has lot of cameos (rated A for fans of series and C for non-fans).
A new feature on Sunday Arts will be Brendan speaking about a past LGBTI film that he really enjoyed. This week it’s Trans America (2005) especially in the wake of Caitlyn Jenner’s feature in Vanity Fair. It was a groundbreaking film and way ahead of its time.
Our special guest today is Denny Lawrence, an Australian actor and director.
Denny came back from New York, invited by the artistic director of Red Stitch Actors Theatre, to direct a play called Love, Love, Love about two babyboomers’ journey through life written from the perspective of a babyboomer’s offspring. It’s on at the Red Stitch theatre on the Corner of Chapel St and Dandenong Rd (Opp.Astor Theatre) until July 4. Denny talks about living in New York, working with Red Stitch & the play and about his next project, a new play called All My Love –about the relationship between poets Henry Lawson and Mary Gilmore.
David tells us of a laneway in St Kilda (near his place) which changed its name last week to Rowland S Howard, honouring an Australian musician and St Kilda resident who died a few years ago. He was from a band called Birthday Party which was one of the post punk rock bands. 50-100 people including David were at the unveiling ceremony. It’s a great tribute to the arts and David hopes that visual artists will be also included one day.
