In Australia, full time working women earn an average of 17.3% less than their male counterparts, while violence is the leading contributor to death, disability and illness of women aged 15 to 44 years.
Recent campaigning around women’s issues in Australia has definitely gained momentum, but how are we nurturing the next generation of strong Australian women?
Tonight, Emma Arnold speaks to emerging artist Okenyo, a powerful women whose mission statement is to ignite strength and spirit in women through her music. With her upcoming national tour alongside Urthboy and the release of her new single ’10 Feet Tall’, Okenyo is building a strong presence in the Australian music industry while advocating the empowerment of Australia’s diverse population of women.
Stephanie McLean catches up with Fitzroy High School’s Performing Arts teacher, Kate Alison and two of her talented performing arts students, Stella Bridie and Zsuzsa Gaynor-Mihaly who are using performance to confront gender inequality and stereotypes in the performing arts.
