New HIV falling dramatically in London – why?

Health, HIV, News & Politics, Sexuality, the informer

Enhanced audio interview.

New HIV infections amongst gay men in London are reportedly down more than 40% – the lowest in decades.

For the Informer,  Ian spoke last month to Dr Nneka Nwokolo from 56 Dean Street about how the team there is focussing on targeting and supporting those at most risk of becoming infected with HIV.

It’s about much more than PrEP – in many cases rapid and frequent sexual health testing is also being encouraged every month. And the team also aims to get those diagnosed with HIV onto treatment with 48 hours.

The results are extraordinarily successful and may have lessons for other cities and countries.
