Australia Day isn’t only about Paul Hogan, getting angry at your family, sun burn, making inappropriate comments about your best friend’s partner and lamingtons.
What a corker today is. The Kitchen Table team head out to their kitchen base in Kensington and take a couple of travelers along for the ride. They break into the debate about who invented the pavlova – the Australians or the Kiwis? Shannon cooks prawns as she learns that one of her team has an allergy to shellfish, and American Chris and British Natasha are wowed by the cooking prowess of their hosts.
The team delve into Australia’s culinary closet and pull out pies and sausages. They joke about the death of part of Australia’s national emblem as they eat kangaroo sausages. Shannon gets annoyed with a badly maintained barbecue and walks away to take part in the other Australian Day tradition of talking smack to guests – Christian is left to do the cooking.
Back in the studio the team discus the history of Australia Day and why some now call it Invasion Day.
