Seaweed is used throughout the world for a variety of things but in the culinary world it is taking off.
Today the Kitchen Table explores seaweed farming in the province of West Papua. They examine an SBS report on how the industry has impacted West Papuan farmers and the UN program behind the development.
The Kitchen Table then delves further into what life is like on the ground in West Papua by talking to the Human Rights Law Centre’s communications director Tom Clarke and the Pacific Media Centre’s director David Robie.
The occupation of West Papua by Indonesian forces is examined as well as the history of the disputed region. The Freeport Mine also gets touched on.
Tom talks about the history and human rights abuses, while David talks about how the West Papuans see themselves as a separate country from Indonesia and their battle for self determination.
