The one about surveys and celebrating ageing

It’s a double event this episode!

Anastasia chats with Eloise from The Gender Centre NSW. They explore why we should complete a 20 minute anonymous survey on Health and Social Needs if we’re over 16 and identify as Trans and Gender Diverse (this includes sistergirls and brotherboys). Anastasia and Eloise discuss what barriers might prevent the participation of people of diverse backgrounds. The survey closes on 29 September, so get cracking!

Dr Catherine Barrett (who identifies as human despite Anastasia’s insistence that she is an angel) is also in for a chat. Anastasia and Catherine share about their preparations for Embolden2019. It was held on 1-3 September at the St Kilda Town Hall. You can now see photos from the event on Facebook.

Catherine is passionate about celebrating the elders in the LGBTIQ+ community. She established Celebrate Ageing, a Social Enterprise challenging ageism and building respect for older people. You might like to check out the kinfolk project which aims to improve TGD Elder’s choice and control over gender identity and expression. It’s part of Alice’s Garage.

And we recommend GLOW – a great show about woman celebrating their uniqueness.

*** We know that sometimes it can be hard to know who to talk to if you are experiencing a mental health crisis. If you do not have family and friends living nearby or a strong local support network it can be hard to get through difficult times on your own. Whether you are in a crisis or you just feel down and need to talk to someone, it is important to know that help is available at all hours of the day and night.

There are many free mental health hotlines and mental health online support services across Victoria, which provide crisis support, information, resources, counseling, and therapy to people of all ages.
